Looks like we may have dodged the bullet from Hurricane Dorian. Feel for the people in the Bahamas - it must have been terrible.
A typhoon ripped apart Hill 327 near Danang, Vietnam in October 1970. You can see what it did to my hootch. All the buildings were destroyed and much of our equipment. We hid out in bunkers and metal vans during the typhoon. We watched looking out the door as the storm built up.
BAM!!! The roof of our building was ripped off. When the eye of the storm came over we left our van and walked around. The light was a pale yellow with a very weird feel. Then the winds picked up again and we had to retreat back into the van.

After the storm we gave up on Hill, and just kept fighting positions and radios on the Hill. Most of the valley below was flooded.
